When you generate output from a project, ePublisher Express converts your source documents into output files based on the information contained within your project file. Output refers to the files that the ePublisher Express project generates – such as individual topic pages (.html files), Help sets, or graphics files (.jpeg, .gif, .tif, etc.). By generating output in ePublisher Express, you are creating the files that compose your entire Help system.
As you make changes to your source documents and your project, you will need to generate the output files to see any modifications you have made -such as:
In ePublisher Express, you can use either the generate or regenerate option to create output. The generate and regenerate option both create output for your project; however, there are subtle differences between the two options.
When you choose to regenerate output, ePublisher Express will create your output files from scratch – that is, it will delete the Data folder from the project directory and rebuild a new one. When ePublisher Express regenerates your output files, it is creating brand new output files. You should regenerate your source document any time you have added new information to your source document that is not content – such as modifications to paragraph styles, new table styles, edited cross-reference formats, etc. Essentially, you need to regenerate your project anytime information within the source template has changed, and you need ePublisher Express to pick up this information.
You want to regenerate your output files when any of the following have changed:

In your ePublisher Express project, select Project > Regenerate All. |
When you generate your project for the first time, you are basically regenerating your project since you are creating your output files from scratch; however, once you have generated output files, you may want to use the generate option to create output files more quickly.
When you use the generate option, you are updating your output with content changes made within your source documents and changes within your projects.
You will want to use the generate option when you have made changes to:
In ePublisher Express, you can generate output for your entire project or you can generate output for a top-level group or a single document in your project.
